Dear Friend,

Welcome to the October 2015 newsletter. I hope you’re doing well.

Personal Update

My Personal Update for October is now available. If we’re not already connected on Facebook, I invite you to Like my page and also visit my AboutGregJohnson.com website.

Building a Better Democracy

Three years ago I launched the website AGovernmentOfThePeople.com as an online educational site for civics resources. I continue to maintain the site by posting periodic news and updates. The materials can be used to augment curriculum for those teaching about governance. This month I wrote an article titled Building a Better Democracy. It’s part of a longer piece titled Six Blind People, One Elephant, and the Iowa City Council Race.

I’m interested in what we can do to improve governance, and our current election brings up some interesting issues and challenges. I wrote two other articles about the upcoming election: The 2015 Iowa City Council Race in 10 Minutes, and, New City Council Members May Result in Better Representation.

With eight candidates running, I have friends involved on all sides of the local election. So, I thought my contribution could be to create the framework (website and Facebook page) for what to me seem to be the underdogs and underrepresented groups in our community who are represented by what’s come to be known as the Core Four candidates. In this way I could simply facilitating the democratic process.

Heart Songs

This month’s Heart Songs selection is You and Me by You+Me from the album Rose Avenue. A music video of the song is below. Note: If an ad appears overlaid on the video, feel free to click the little gray ‘x’ box in the top right corner of the ad to remove it.

Thanks. I want to thank the global team of volunteers, contributors, and workers “behind the scenes” who help make all this possible. I’m very grateful to the many people who continue to uphold and advance the mission of Resources for Life. Thanks again for your support. Please let me know if there is any way that Resources for Life can serve you better.

Regards,
Greg
