Remove Formatting from Pasted Text

Technology

User Question. “Often when I paste something from the Internet to an e-mail or Microsoft Word, the resulting pasted text ends up having weird formatting like being too small.”

Response. Typically in Windows or Apple, pasting text that has any formatting will retain the original formatting.

For Apple users, try pasting the text into the Text Edit program which strips it of formatting if you have gone to the Format menu and selected make plain text. Then, select all and copy it from Text Edit and paste it where you like. The font will no longer have formatting codes.

For Windows users, paste text into the Notepad program, then select all text, copy and paste it into the desired destination.

Some programs offer a Paste Special option under the Edit menu or elsewhere. This allows for text to be pasted in without the formatting.
