Spenco PolySorb Cross Trainer Shoe Inserts Money Savings Increased Energy Weight Loss

Summary. This page offers a review by Gregory Johnson of the Spenco PolySorb shoe inserts. This review was originally written in February of 2008.

A few days ago (5 February 2008) I purchased some Spenco PolySorb Cross Trainer Shoe Inserts from Lady Footlocker for about $20. The store had several types of Spenco PolySorb inserts to choose from. I chose the Cross Trainer version because it seemed to have the most cushion in the heel and had plenty of cushion for the front of the foot as well.

Money Savings. I was prompted to purchase the inserts because my current pair of running shoes are no longer providing the shock absorption that they did in the past. A new pair of running shoes would cost about $80. However, for $20, the inserts make the shoes feel like new again. So, I saved about $60.

Increased Energy. In recent weeks I had been feeling exhausted at the end of the day. This is partly a result of carrying more in my backpack, but also because the shoes I have been wearing don’t provide sufficient shock absorption. I can easily move the inserts from one pair of shoes to another. I’m already noticing that I have more energy throughout the day and don’t feel as exhausted at the end of the day.

Weight Loss. With the extra energy I now have, I’m more active throughout the day which results in an increased metabolic rate. I’ve already lost some weight since I started wearing the inserts and based on the current trajectory of weight loss, I expect to see significant results in a few weeks.

Update. On 5 March 2010, about two years after writing the above review, I ended up buying some Skechers Shape-Ups shoes. They appear to be very well made and seem to resolve numerous problems that I’d previously had with shoes losing their cushion or needing extra cushioning. We’ll see how the Skechers perform over the next few years. If they hold up well, and offer ongoing cushioning, they will likely save me hundreds of dollars.
