Ted.com – Technology Entertainment Design

Lifeways

Summary. The TED.com website is an uplifting online resource that presents a menu of content visually based on the setting of your choice: recently updated, most viewed, etc. We’ve filed it under Lifeways, since the overall message is about envisioning and working toward a positive future for the planet.

The TED Prize. Winners of the TED prize receive $100,000 as well as a “wish” for something that will save the world. One example of this is Cameron Sinclair’s wish that architecture would become an open source industry. His wish came true with the creation of the Open Architecture Network.

About TED. This description of the website comes from their about page: “TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader. The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes). This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. Almost 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.”
