Abundant Living

Effective Living

Summary. Abundant living is the principle of having more time, space, money, and resources than are needed. This approach to life is different than sustainable living which is to simply sustain what one needs to survive.

Practice. The practice of abundant living involves the effective use of available resources and the diminished demand on those resources. The mindset of abundant thinking is quite simple. For example, are you always running out of coat hangers? Go out and buy a 10-pack to ensure that you’ll always have several empty hangers left. Or, get rid of some clothes. Create an environment where there’s always a little more. This can even be done in the context of simplicity. Abundance need not imply opulence. The approach to abundant living can impact every area of life.

  • Calories. Burning slightly more calories every day than are consumed creates a flexible buffer allowing for occasional overages of food intake.
  • Finances. Everyone establishes their lifestyle and the financial demands for living such a lifestyle. Create a lifestyle for yourself that consistently costs less to maintain than what you earn.
  • Fitness. Maintain a level of fitness and energy that exceeds your daily need.
  • Space. Get rid of what you don’t need. Always have empty space in the closet, refrigerator, bookshelf, backpack, car, wallet, purse, bag, and rooms. Don’t expand to create space, reduce to create space.
