Gregory Paul Johnson – Personal Update 201306 | 30 June 2013 | Sunday

Dear Friend,

Here’s my personal update for June 2013.

Facebook. If we’re not already connected on Facebook, please visit my Facebook page and send me a friend request. I’ve been using Facebook to post photos and links to content.

Distance Education. This past week I was able to provide video recording services to a STARTALK funded Russian language conference at the University of Iowa. Among other topics, the conference presented Russian Learning Objects. One of the presenters at the conference was Dr. Marina Kostina, author of The Golden Climate in Distance Learning. An early inspiration for my career in technology support was attending a similar conference back in 1979 (the White House Conference on Libraries and Information Sciences) where the online collaboration tools and resources of the day were utilized. It’s been interesting to follow online technologies over the past few decades.

Iowa City Architecture. This month I launched IowaCityArchitecture.com – a new website that focuses on Iowa City Architecture. In college, one of my areas of interest was Urban and Regional Planning. One of the semster-long programs I attended was the South American Urban Semester offered through the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs. My interest in development and architecture has continued over the years. One of my favorite subjects in photography is the architecture of homes and buildings. As a result of flood damage and a renewed commitment to investing in developing downtown Iowa City, we’re seeing a lot of interesting new architecture in our area. The University of Iowa and UIHC are investing in new construction as well. I hope to provide the new website as a place to showcase local development projects and unique architecture.

Iowa City Scrabble Club. This past month I setup a website for the Iowa City Scrabble Club. It was fun designing the Scrabble-inspired logo for the site.

Email Lists. I’ve been working more with MailChimp this past month and wrote up instructions on how to make best use of it.

Writings. In the past, I’ve posted writings and articles on a variety of topics on the Resources For Life website. This past month I’m making an effort to post articles on my websites with related materials:

Many thanks to all of you who keep in touch and provide support for the work I do.

~ Gregory
