Dear Friend,

I know that time is precious for everyone these days, so I’ll try to keep this update short. The approximate reading time for this message is about 5 minutes. Feel free to reduce your reading time even more by skipping over topics that don’t interest you.

Personal Update. My Personal Update for August is now available. Photos and a video from my recent India trip are now available in a special report and also on my photo galleries page.

Heart Songs. The Heart Song selections for August are now available on iTunes. This month there are only three songs representing an eclectic mix of genres. The songs are in alphabetical order by title. The first song is Our God by Chris Tomlin from the Passion: Awakening (Deluxe Edition) album. This is a very nice live performance version of this popular worship song. It has amazingly remained at about position 130 (currently 129) on the aggregate iTunes charts for all music in all categories sold through the store, performing better right now than popular songs by Miley Cyrus, Eminem, Enrique Iglesias, Lady GaGa, Reba McEntire, Hanna Montana, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Taylor Swift, and Usher. It’s remarkable for an inspirational praise song to reach so high in the charts when competing with pop musicians on multi-million dollar labels. The second song for this month is Pee Loon Hoto Ki Sargam by Pritam & Mohit Chauhan from the soundtrack to the movie Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai. I heard the song while in India at a clothing store, and it really stuck with me. The third song for this month is Poker Face by Lady GaGa from the album The Fame. It’s a catchy tune that I heard briefly during the movie trailer for Easy A. The song Everytime performed by Jackie Evancho from her album Prelude to a Dream is no longer available through the iTunes store. I’d downloaded the song to be a fourth song for this month, but at the time of this writing, all of her music has been pulled from the iTunes store. I’m not sure why. Her performance of the song is much better than the version popularized by Britney Spears. Although the Hi-Bias Radio Remix version of Britney’s performance is quite good as found on her My Prerogative album.

Dear Friend,

I know that time is precious for everyone these days, so I’ll try to keep this update short. The approximate reading time for this message is about 5 minutes. Feel free to reduce your reading time even more by skipping over topics that don’t interest you.

This Month’s Newsletter – Fueled By. This month’s newsletter is fueled by steamed organic peas with broccoli, two Sunshine Burger Vegan patties (my dinner tonight), and a saved-in-the-refrigerator 4-day-old (yet amazingly fresh and delicious) cup of coffee from Cottonwood Canyon cafe in Waterloo, Iowa (courtesy of a kind person who bought it for me last week). There’s a tradition I like to follow of using things for a higher purpose, so I’d saved that cup of coffee to provide energy for writing this month’s newsletter.

Personal Update. My Personal Update for May is now available.

Heart Songs. The Heart Song selections for May are now available on iTunes. It’s been many years since I featured exclusively Christian music, so this month will provide some equal time in an effort to be ecumenically fair and balanced. The title for this month’s collection of songs is God of This City and is dedicated to the restoration of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Postville – three Iowa towns that are still rebuilding from devastation in recent years.  On Friday, 7 May 2010, I’d received an email from my uncle sharing a video clip of his band (City Prayz) performing a worship song titled “God of this City.” I’d never heard the song before, but was amazed by the quality of the video, the vocals, instrumental performance, and the hopeful lyrics. That afternoon, I went to pickup a rental car, and when I switched on the radio, that same song was on the radio (performed by Chris Tomlin on Life Radio). On Monday, driving back to return the rental car, I turned on the radio, and the song was playing again. It was one of those amazing synchronicity moments. So, I decided to have it be the title song for this month’s Heart Songs selections. Another song that inspired me this month is City on Our Knees by tobyMac. The lyrics of the song are, “If you’ve gotta start somewhere, why not here? If you’ve gotta start sometime, why not now? If we’ve gotta start somewhere, I say here. If we’ve gotta start sometime, I say now. Through the fog there is hope in the distance. From cathedrals to third world missions. Love will fall to the earth like a crashing wave. Tonight’s the night. For the sinners and the saints. Two worlds collide in a beautiful display. It’s all love tonight, when we step across the line, we can sail across the sea, to a city with one king. A city on our knees.” This month, there are also seven renditions of the worship song Jesus, Lover of my Soul. Another synchronicity moment this past month was on 2 May when Makur and I had stopped the car to take some pictures of an amazing rainbow. As we began to review the photos, with the rainbow still on the horizon, a song on the radio began playing that begins with the words, “All the colors of the rainbow…,” and continues to tell a hopeful story about testifying to love with “Give peace a chance” echoed by the backup vocalists. A different version of that song (performed by Wynonna) was the lead song for the Heart Songs 2002 collection, and this newer one performed by Avalon is a nice rendition. There are several other songs this month consistent with the theme of hope and inspiration. The concluding song is We Will Embrace Your Move performed by Darrell Evans. The refrain of the song declares, “The music of heaven will soon overtake the earth.” Thanks to Life Radio (101.9 KNWS) for providing much of the inspiration for this month’s selections.

What’s New. This month a variety of articles and content were added. Remember you can always find out the latest news by visiting the What’s New Page and the Documents Page. Here are a few highlights of recent documents (most recent at top):

Dear Friend,

I know that time is precious for everyone these days, so I’ll try to keep this update short. The approximate reading time for this message is about 5 minutes. Feel free to reduce your reading time even more by skipping over topics that don’t interest you. This month, there is a very important message (below) about Internet safety and security that everyone should read.

Personal Update. My Personal Update for April is now available.

Heart Songs. The Heart Song selection for April is now available on iTunes. The title for this month’s collection of songs is Sh’ma Yisrael. This month’s newsletter and Heart Songs selections are in honor of Pesach Sheni (the Second Passover) and emphasize worship of God and redemption. The song Shema as performed by Fortuna is a beautiful rendition of the Jewish Sh’ma prayer set to music. Fortuna is a female vocalist who sings in Hebrew, Spanish, and Ladino (a ancient language that is a fusion of Hebrew and Spanish). There are several songs performed by Fortuna in this month’s collection including songs based on Jewish prayers such as Adon Olam. Other songs this month are interfaith deep passion worship music performed by Christian artists with a solitary focus on God. Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns is a song about enduring life’s hardships, catastrophes, and devastating storms.

Motivational Calendars. The 2010 Motivational Calendars are still available. Contact me if you’d like one. The calendars are free, but supplies are running out quickly.

Increase in World-wide Cyber Attacks. In recent months there has been an marked increase in world-wide cyber attacks. Numerous government, defense, security, business, and financial sector websites have been hacked. An “army” of hijacked “zombie” computers around the world are being used to conduct cybercrime campaigns and Internet warfare. Yesterday Leon Panetta, director of the Central Intelligence Agency, stated that the next “Pearl Harbor” is likely to be an attack on United States’ power, financial, military, and other Internet systems. [source] This month, the computers hosting the ResourcesForLife.com website were attacked repeatedly over a period of about two weeks. Combatting these attacks necessitated the immediate implementation of 24-hour internal and external surveillance and scanning of our site to maintain the stability of the site and and safety of site visitors. You can read more about our rigorous security policies and practices in our security statement. We’ve also listed security and website scanning tools and resources on that page. For greater site security, we’ve removed the Google AdSense advertising feed. Advertising had been the source of malware and cause of computer infections via the Des Moines Register website this past week.

What’s New. The past month was mostly dedicated to defending the website against cyber attacks. However, new content was posted during the first 11 days of the month as indicated below. Remember you can always find out the latest news by visiting the What’s New Page and the Documents Page. Here are a few highlights of recent documents (most recent at top):

Please let me know if there is any way that Resources for Life can serve you better.
