Summary. The White House has setup a petition website similar to ThePetitionSite.com where people can rally around certain issues. When petitions reach a certain threshold, the government responds with a written statement and may even take action.

Petition Topics. The petitions listed are all policy focused and broad in their scope and address general policies rather than specific grievances. There are no personal appeals on the site. For this reason, ThePetitionSite.com is a better choice for those wanting to initiate a more personalized petition in support of a specific person, organization, or business. The White House site is designed to bring about broad policy changes, but not intervention in specific cases.

Benefits. Here are some of the benefits to using self storage services:

Organize. Using uniform boxes that are stackable, it’s easy to create a directory of your numbered boxes. This makes it easy to find things when you need them.

Save Time. By having your stuff organized, you’ll spent less time searching for things.

Downsize. The process of organizing things allows us to reduce along the way, donating or selling stuff we don’t need anymore.

Save Money. If you’ve been paying more money every month for rent just to have space for all your stuff, you can save money by using an inexpensive self-storage unit and then moving into a smaller apartment or home.

De-Stress. By organizing, saving time, downsizing, and saving money, you’ll have less stress and clutter in your life.

Introduction. The EcoSOLO is a micro studio house by Non Compliant Design.

A work of art, and architecture, the design of the EcoSOLO incorporates a variety of textures, colors, and shapes.

With 55 windows incorporated into its design, when properly positioned the dwelling takes full advantage of solar power for light and warmth.

Because the framing of the home is screwed and bolted together, there is exceptional structural strength and the possibility of disassembly and relocation later.

Benefits. Some of the additional benefits of EcoSOLO are listed on the designer’s website, such as:

Low Maintenance. The largest portion of ECOSOLO’s exterior surface is maintenance free and designed to withstand the most extreme weather conditions, reducing the cost and hassle of upkeep and avoiding limitations of other building designs.

Optimal Air & Heating. The built-in Photo Voltaic Powered Silent Air Destratification system runs continuously, working to return the heated air that rises to the structure’s twenty-foot peak back down to the floor level. This works to reduce condensation and stagnation of the interior air, even when the building is unoccupied.

Perpetual Lighting. Limitation of resources due to remote off-the-grid building sites can be accommodated by using ECOSOLO’s LED/Battery/Lighting system that provides a continuous supply of energy, maintaining functional lighting.

Design Highlights. From the designers website:

ECOSOLO is essentially the culmination and refinement of a building design first sketched on paper nearly 30 years ago. Moving away from geometric design itself, ECOSOLO exhibits a strong focus on material and construction system economics. Through the use of minimal renewable building components, simple “low tech” fastening devices and an emphasis on maintaining maximal structural strength, ECOSOLO is a building possessing superior structural integrity while consuming far less material.

The combination of octahedral and tetrahedral forms allow for the construction of a variety of dynamic architectural compositions. The resulting product is a bold energetic statement; the severe angles and changing planes spark interest and curiosity in the viewer. Literally taking you “outside the box”, this architectural form moves in a direction away from tradition and normality. There is an element of beauty found in its pure form. Derived from simplistic and primary triangular components, representing strength and stability, the structure’s natural shape mimics the properties of this basic geometric unit.

Features. Some of the many features include:

Uses less than half the board feet of lumber as standard 2X6 residential construction.

Uses inexpensive 1×4 clear mix grain Douglas Fir and select structural Douglas Fir 2X4.

All framing assemblies are bolted and or screwed together making disassembly and relocation and option.

No plywood sheathing.

Optional designs include building foundation using just four ecology blocks, producing a 120 ft.² floor with a less than 50 ft.² footprint.

55 windows incorporated in design provide excellent solar gain and a wonderful natural light environment.

Photo Gallery. Below are selected images of the EcoSOLO. More can be found on the designer’s website.

That Saturday morning, we decided to go on a trail ride way beyond our normal route. We knew we’d need to hike part of the way, since the trails weren’t maintained or even developed that far out. So we made sure to wear our low-rise boots.

What began as a bicycle trail, eventually turned into a hiking path, and then deteriorated to no path at all. We went by foot for a long distance on a narrow trail that seemed like a path only travelled by mountain goats. Looking for more level ground, we climbed to the top of the ridge. Looking over we stopped in our tracks.

Hundreds of feet below was a compound nestled into the valley, surrounded by mountains, with no roads or trails in or out.

“What do you suppose that is?” I asked, without looking to see my wife’s expression.

“Let’s see if it has a location pin in Google Maps,” she said, pulling out her iPhone.

We still called them iPhones, but the new generation was just calling them pocket computers. They were the technology that came after smart phones. Actually, you could still use them for phone calls, but the name was changed after people began using email and text more than voice calls. Since the telephone capability was only one function of hundreds it seemed odd to call them phones anyway. It would be like calling a Swiss Army Knife a toothpick. Apple still dominated the hardware market, but with Linux being adopted world-wide as the scalable OS standard, most devices were similar in function.

“Google Maps shows nothing but trees in that valley,” she said, shaking her head. “Look.” She showed me her screen.

“Wow. A valid cloak find!” I was thrilled. A “cloak find” was when you’d find something that was erased from Google Maps. We’d been days without finding anything in our area.

In 2015, Google, MapQuest, Bing, and other online mapping services began allowing government agencies, military, farming operations, factories, businesses, and individuals to buy their way out of the maps. These locations would not just be blocked out or blurred, but made completely invisible using a sophisticated algorithm that became publicly available in Adobe CS6. The software could mimic the surrounding area to make objects disappear without a trace.

In addition to selling this cloaking service to the wealthy, the online mapping providers started selling ad space. Areas of terrain that repeated with relatively little variation were considered to be a waste of server space — and also a potential source of valuable ad revenue. The ads quickly flourished. One could purchase static ad space of varying sizes (essentially owning that virtual real estate), or share it in time-parcels (5 seconds being the smallest). So, as soon as you’d leave the coastline, or venture into the Canadian wilderness, you’d begin seeing ads. The shared time-parcels would rotate from one ad to the next like a tiny slideshow.

Even on street view, when looking at large buildings, ads would show up. Actual billboards and other outside advertising was replaced with Google AdSense for Maps advertisements.

There were paid versions of the mapping services to view the world without advertising. However, this was expensive. So, most people put up with the advertising. Even with the paid versions, you wouldn’t see the cloaked content.

So, online maps had become less reliable. Some of us felt that maps should remain free and open to the public. So, the Open Mapping Project was created by volunteers. It was like Wikipedia for maps, with thousands of contributors world-wide. It turned out to be one of the best sources of mapping information available, and the high resolution on-location photos were something not available with the commercial mapping services.

In recent years, my wife and I began submitting content to the Open Mapping Project from our wilderness bicycle rides. There was a principle among activists of zero-net-loss activism. The idea is that there’s a lot we can do to make a better world without expending any extra time, energy, or money. You’re already out on a bicycle ride. You’re already taking photos. Simply upload the geotagged photos and you’re contributing to something without having gone out of your way to do it. A lot of bicyclists would pull trailers for recycling and trash — keeping their commute route clean. This was another example of how, without going out of your way, just taking care of the world within arm’s reach we could all collectively clean the world.

“Do you have a signal?” My wife asked, while changing out lenses on her DSLR camera.

“Yep. My pocket computer has it’s hotspot enabled, and the signal is good. Go ahead.”

She began uploading her photos. The Open Mapping Project was setup to work effortlessly with the cameras in mobile computers or DSLR cameras using an EyeFi device. This way, people could upload photos in real-time.

We started on our way back. Walking at first, and then on our bicycles again. As we reached the bicycle tunnel under the railroad tracks, we could hear a helicopter approaching just as we entered the tunnel. We stopped inside the tunnel and looked out to see a blue helicopter with white accents. On the tail were large letters DI. We used out binoculars to get a closer look. Droxtile Industries was written on the side of the helicopter. Rather than continuing on its path, it dropped vertically just beyond the ridge where we’d been.

We smiled, and without saying a word, got back on our bikes. We’d discovered the unknown home base of the Droxtile Industries helicopter. I couldn’t wait to tell Kurt.

We needed to get home by dark so we could get plenty of sleep for our ride the next day. Steph had arranged for us to meet Aiyana — one of the elders in the holistic wellness community. Aiyana lived in the hill country east of the city, so the ride would take a while. Because we were going for our first training session, we wanted as much daylight as possible.

The ride to Club 21 seemed to take forever. Our minds were racing as fast as we were. The only sound was that of our high pressure tires rolling smoothly down the road. My mind began to wander.

Riding a bicycle with belt drive technology was smooth and quiet, making the experience even more intimate and allowing the rider to be more aware of their surroundings. We’d recently upgraded to some PiCycle hybrid electric bicycles that were rated at an energy efficiency equivalence of 2,025 miles per gallon. The bicycles communicated wirelessly to our iPhones so we’d know battery level, speed, and other vitals. As technology integration specialists, my wife and I enjoyed seeing the role that technology was playing in making the world more sustainable.

We’d both grown up in an era of chain drive bicycles. The grease, noise, and road grit were all part of the bicycling experience. That was before the Oil Decline, when fossil fuel vehicles were still commonplace. There were warnings back then of a Peak Oil crisis. Among those who were concerned, it seemed like we were on a Titanic that would inevitably crash with nobody in power willing to avoid the crisis. There was a risk that we’d use up the last drop of fossil fuel before creating a replacement energy infrastructure. If that happened, billions of people would die and cities would go dark. That was the Peak Oil scare. We all studied the history of Cuba’s oil crisis to prepare ourselves for what we would soon face. [source]

The public energy crisis protests raised awareness, yet they had become mostly ineffective to bring about any real change. It was like when there were 10 to 30 million people in 60 countries simultaneously protesting the Iraq war. It raised awareness. People felt better, but the war continued, and the protest only sparked a war at home, with thousands of activists arrested and the rest trying to make their way home with pepper spray in their eyes. [source] The police and national guard troops were almost always called in to shut things down when those practicing freedom of speech became a nuisance. So, the protests became ineffectual and predictable theatrics that accompanied an unceasing parade of wars. Years after the 2003 Iraq protests, the arrests of other protestors continued, regardless of who controlled the White House. This and the ongoing simultaneous multiple wars brought about political disillusionment among those wanting to give peace a chance. From January 2009 through May 2011, over 2,600 activist were arrested in the U.S. alone. [source]

After decades of seeing this pattern repeat itself, activists realized a new strategy was needed, and a new strategy emerged: “Influence those in power, or become those in power.” We called it Transcendent Activism.

The first test of Transcendent Activism was actually early on. In April 2005, with no protestors, no arrests, no police, no national guard, and no pepper spray, Jean-Michel Cousteau applied what in retrospect seems like Jedi Mind Tricks [video] on then President George W. Bush. Cousteau held a screening of Voyage to Kure in the White House. Moments after seeing the film, Cousteau recounts, ”President Bush looked at all of us and said-[and] I am quoting- ‘Let’s get it done.’” It was then that Bush committed to preserving what became nearly 200,000 square miles of Pacific ocean in three national marine monuments. [source]

Cousteau’s success inspired many others to pursue careers in politics or business. It would take decades, but eventually those young activists would become decision makers, legislators, and business leaders.

Eventually we reached critical mass. Businesses and world political leaders created numerous green energy incentives which made it profitable to sell clean energy and inexpensive to buy. Consumers and investors simultaneously flocked to the newer cleaner technologies.

Entire cities switched over to 100% green electricity. One of the early and most visible examples was Cincinnati, Ohio. [source] Having 53,000 households and businesses switch to green electricity in a single day was a huge victory, and it proved that one or a few people in leadership making a progressive decision, could impact tens of thousands. Like Jean-Michel Cousteau’s White House victory, the Cincinnati switch over brought even more activists to embrace the power of Transcendent Activism.

The only thing that had been holding back progress was our past inclination to protest in the streets with our complaints rather than quietly engaging leadership in discussion about solutions. It’s easier to just complain, but ultimately less effective.

Club 21 was birthed out of the green revolution in the early 21st Century. It was one of the first LEED certified sustainable night clubs in the country. Urban areas were slow to adopt geo-thermal because early technologies required the ability to run underground pipes through a large yard or field. Coil systems reduced the land required, but still weren’t an option in urban areas. By 2018 drilling technologies were developed that would send geothermal pipe coils vertically deep into the ground which made it possible to retrofit just about any residence or business with geothermal. With new construction the process was even easier. Club 21 was built from the ground up with sustainability in mind. The geothermal system provided liquid cooling for solar/wind powered instruments and amplifiers for live music performances. The entire club was powered by solar and wind on premises.

Roads still existed in the city for trucks making deliveries, but bicycles had become the transportation method of choice for most people. A network of interconnected bicycle trails provided multiple paths to get around the city. Many of the trails were fully covered for easier all-year riding, and to make bridges and flyovers safer for riders zipping through town two or three stories above street level. They were like pedestrian walkways that connect buildings, but instead moved through the city. Bicycling was made safer, faster, and all-round more enjoyable so the masses of consumers would being choosing bicycles over cars (if $20 per gallon gas prices hadn’t already convinced them).

We got to Club 21 right at 8:00 PM. We could hear the house music playing from outside the building — not because they had the volume so loud on the inside, but because low volume studio speakers allowed those passing to get a sample of the music which would be different from one night to the next. So, it was like restaurants that use a fan to blow the small from their kitchen into the street. Tonight was techno trance dance music.

There was almost always a cover charge, except on rare occasions when the club was reserved special parties. In which case no amount of money could get you in. Apparently tonight was one of those occasions when club entry was by invitation only. As we approached the door, the two muscular guys flanking the door asked for our invitation.

My wife looked at me and said, “Give him the prescription.”

The man looked down at the piece of paper, then looked up at us and shook his head. He wasn’t going to let us in.

Maybe we’d totally misread the note on the back of the prescription. Maybe this was all in our head. A secret message? An address based on Google results? It was all too implausible. We began walking away.

Then my wife asked, “What side of the prescription did he look at?”

“The Rezifp Dawn invitation…” As soon as I answered, I knew what her next words would be. The prescription for aspirin was the pass into the club, not the handwritten note on the back from Dr. Jerrard.

We turned around and this time showed the prescription for aspirin, and were allowed entry.

Although the music outside the club was techno trance dance music, inside the music was different. It was ambient music. Very mellow. People were at tables socializing. Some eating. Some just talking. There was Dr. Jerrard walking toward us.

“I’m glad you figured out my cryptic invitation,” she said with a smile. “I need to be very careful at the hospital. These days, healthcare is considered a matter of homeland security. There’s such a high concern about biohazards and viral warfare.”

“Dr. Jerrard…” my wife said, beginning to ask a question.

“Hey, you guys can call me Steph. Believe me, I’m sick of the formalities and impersonal institutionalism of modern medical facilities. I’m actually trained in a very different kind of medicine.”

She guided us toward a table, and kept talking, apparently not concerned about the people around us. “At the hospital, everything we say and do is monitored. Back in 2013, when the NSA’s Utah spy center went online, our hospital surveillance was shunted over to that facility. It’s a 2 billion dollar, heavily fortified, 25,000 square foot data center with a 60,000 ton cooling system to keep the high powered processors from melting down. That’s enclosed in 1 million square feet of surveillance and security costing more than $10 million dollars.” [source]

“I’d never heard about that…” I wondered if she was speaking rumors or facts. It seems like something of that size would be well known.

“It was written up in a short article in Wired Magazine. That was just to remove the allure that a secret facility has. Those who had an interest at the time read the story, but most people never heard about it again, and the story or future news of the facility never resurfaced. Imagine the power of that place by now. I’ve heard rumors that in subsequent years, they built more levels below the original construction plan.” She looked up and waived at a server who seemed to know from her hand gesture what she was ordering.

“I hope you don’t mind, I ordered us some drinks,” she smiled.

“I’m glad you’re here,” she said looking at both of us. “I’d hoped you would come here together. Because you’re both patients of mine, and given what I know about you, I thought you’d be ideal candidates for an assignment we’re working on.”

Three green drinks soon arrived at the table in tall glasses. I was sort of tracking, but not very well. Seeing Dr. Jerrard, or Steph, out of context like this, and without her institutional persona was like meeting a different person. So, it was like starting all over trying to figure out who she really was, and what this meeting was about.

“So, what’s the assignment?” I asked hoping if she kept talking I’d figure out what was going on and I wouldn’t look so stupid.

“All of us here in the club tonight are doctors of alternative medicine and advocates for more natural and preventative healthcare. Some of us work inside the system, trying to fix it, change it, and learn about it. Others provide care outside the system — primarily preventing illness rather than reacting to it.”

She took a sip of her green drink, and continued, “The other day at your medical exam, when I told you that I couldn’t help you until you became sick. Weren’t you curious? Didn’t it seem like something was wrong with a system that only helps people when they are sick?”

“Well, yes. That’s why I reacted the way I did.” I didn’t know where she was going with this.

She began scribbling a flowchart and some notes on a napkin, “The hospital computer systems analyze patient lab work and give medical staff advice what to do based on that lab work. Some of us believe that the software is designed to favor the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies at the expense of the patient’s wellbeing.”

“Are you following me?” She looked at both of us and continued, “You can take that same lab work to a doctor outside the system, and they will give you a long laundry list of things you can do to avoid the illnesses that are very easily identified as future outcomes based on present conditions. Take diabetes for example. There are simple, inexpensive, early detection methods for that. The cure costs little or nothing. Yet, the modern medical system gives patients no warning until they are full-on diabetic. Doctors outside the system will recommend a diet and exercise routine that can completely turn around pre-diabetic conditions. That’s one example of hundreds.”

“….But the doctors outside the system aren’t covered by insurance, which makes them mostly inaccessible except to those who have financial means.” My wife was now leaning further toward Steph and focusing in on what she was telling us.

“Right.” Steph said, and put down her pen. “What we don’t know is if the hospital software has intentionally been programmed to favor the pharmaceutical companies. Were the software programmers in fact ‘paid off’ to create such a system? That’s what we need your help to find out.”

* * *

Chapter 1 – Hilltop Mystery

“What’s that,” I asked, pointing to the building on the hill.

After a short glance, Kurt kept his eyes on the road, “That’s Droxtile Industries. It’s a software development firm. They write the software that hospitals use to track patient records and everything else that goes on in a hospital. They have some fairly tight security. I’d gone hiking on that hill last year, but didn’t get too far before some heavily armed guys asked me to leave. It was pretty creepy.”

“Seems weird for a software firm to have armed guards patrolling the permitter. Do you think it’s really just a cover for some secret government agency or illegal activity?”

Kurt never entertained conspiracy theories, “No. The place is legitimate. Stacy worked there back when we were dating. She couldn’t talk much about it. All employees sign a non-disclosure, but she told me nobody who works there really knows what’s going on because each programmer gets issued micro assignments that only when combined together make the software work.”

“Why are there always helicopters flying in and out?” I continued my line of questioning.

“That’s a mystery. Nobody really knows. The landing pad is on the roof and only a few people have access to that level.”

* * *

Chapter 2 – An Unusual Prescription

I arrived early for my appointment that day. Annual checkups were always the same drill. Sit in the tiny room waiting for the nurse. Get vitals checked. Wait for the doctor. Engage in some friendly chit-chat with the doctor once she arrived.

“Your blood pressure and cholesterol are still a little high.”

“Is it anything to be concerned about?”

“No. Not yet. If it gets too high, I can write you a prescription for some drugs, but until it reaches a certain threshold I can’t really do anything for you.”

“Isn’t there something I can do with diet and exercise?”

“Perhaps, but if it’s not FDA approved, I can’t recommend it. There’s no ‘code’ in our computer to enter for such things.”

“So, once I get sick, only then can you prescribe something?” I could see she sensed the irony in my voice.

“That’s right,” she said, looking nervously at the camera that was monitoring us from the corner of the room. “There’s really nothing I can suggest.”

As I was leaving the room, she turned her back toward the camera, and looking at me said, “There might be something I can prescribe. Try this,” and she handed me a piece of paper, “but don’t mention it to anyone.”

The prescription simply indicated, “Take one aspirin daily at nighttime.”

* * *

Chapter 3 – Deciphering a Hidden Message

“Who’s Steph?” my wife asked showing me a piece of paper with a note on it, smiling as if joking, but with a slight seriousness in her voice.

“I’m not sure what that is,” I answered, glancing at the piece of paper.

“It was here on top of your desk. How can you not know what it is?” She asked disbelieving.

“Oh, that’s the prescription from the doctor. She must have had some notes written on the back of it by mistake.”

I always think of Dr. Jerrard as Dr. Jerrard. That’s kind of how the system is setup. Doctors aren’t supposed to get too personal with patients. They need to remain objective. So, first names weren’t used.

“It says, ‘Rezifp Dawn. Bowery Street at 8PM tonight. Steph,’” my wife said still holding the paper in front of me. Still wondering what was going on. “Were you planning to meet her?”

I was surprised that she was pushing this. She’s really not the jealous or suspicious type.

“Well, a lot of good that would do me.” I took the paper from her, and pointed to it, “It doesn’t say where on Bowery Street, and I don’t know what Rezifp Dawn is. Maybe it’s some band.” I turned and began unpacking my computer bag, continuing, “I really think it’s just a note to herself that she mistakenly wrote on the prescription. We can just call tomorrow and let her know.”

I turned and my wife was at the computer, with her determination rising by the minute.

“What are you doing?,” I asked.

“I’m Googling ‘Rezifp Dawn’,” she said, not looking up. Then her fingers stopped typing.

“And…?” I prodded, determined to prove that this was just an innocent mixup.

“There is nothing,” She said, then falling quickly silent.

“What do you mean there’s nothing. I can’t believe there’s nothing.” I walked over to see what she was talking about.

“Take a look. Zero results.” She showed me her notebook display.

“Hmm… That is strange. You searched with quotes. Try searching without the quotes. Maybe there’s something else. I can’t believe out of the billions of pages Google has indexed that nothing exists.”

At this point in time, the probability of searching on anything you can imagine, and finding nothing had become extremely unlikely.

She searched again, this time without quotes.

“Hmmm.” We both said in unison.

There were only twenty one results, and most of them were gibberish. Maybe were were letting our imaginations get the better of us, but we continued speculating as to what rezifp dawn might be.

I pulled up a chair. “Maybe she was trying to tell me something in these search results. It’s only two pages. We could read what’s here and see if we find anything.”

“By then it would be too late. Get your coat,” my wife said jumping up abruptly. “We’re going to meet the doctor,” she pointed to the clock. It was 7:45 PM.

“Okay… but, where?” I looked up at her, perplexed.

“At Club 21 on Bowery.” She said, with a smile.

“Of course! How ingenious. The Google results are the street address!”

At the address of 21 Bowery Street was a well known night club in town, Club 21.

“How did you figure that out! You always amaze me.” I grabbed my coat, and we rushed out the door.
