Small House Society – News 201301 | 31 January 2013 | Thursday

Dear Friend,

I know that time is precious for everyone, so I’ll try to keep this update short. The approximate reading time is about 5 minutes. Further down, there’s some repetition of announcements from last month for those who’ve just joined the list.

Annual Call for Voluntary Donations. Each year in January, I remind subscribers that this is the time of year to renew as paying members if they wish.

In past years I sent out several reminders, but this year I plan to have this newsletter be the only reminder. Paying members get a listing in our directory of paying members, and businesses get assistance with promotion and marketing. Those who donate help expand the impact of our message.

Goals. The year ahead offers many challenges for the small house movement, but also many opportunities. As we continue to support and build the movement, we plan to focus on the four groups that are central to the movement: Journalists & Media, Designers & Builders, Bloggers & Writers, and Small Housers.

Overcoming Resistance. We’ve seen some resistance to our movement of smaller, simpler, and more sustainable living. Just this past year, for the first time we witnessed anti-small advertising, this time from AT&T as seen in the commercial below.

Thanks. I want to thank the global team of volunteers and contributors “behind the scenes” who help make all this possible. I’m very grateful to the many people who continue to uphold and advance the mission of the Small House Society. Thanks again for your support. Please let me know if there is any way that the Small House Society can serve you better.
