Paycheck – Movie Review

Relationships

Summary. The movie Paycheck is a combination of science fiction, action, and romance drama. It shares a similar theme to other movies about seeing and changing the future.

The movie has plenty of action, chase scenes, good stunts, special effects and suspense.

Ultimately, this is a romance, that plays out in a very well developed futuristic context.

Eventually, the hero of the film is pursued by the FBI as well as his former employer.

An interesting theme in the movie is the power of simple objects or knowledge, in the right context, at the right time.

Related to this, is the principle that a seemingly insignificant or small event or action on our part, may have a huge impact on the future. Knowing this, can give a person greater influence and ability to change the future.

Relationships. One of the memorable and noteworthy quotes from the movie was a quote that we only hear repeated by the heroin. It was a question posed to her by the lead character of the movie, “…you asked me the strangest question… If I knew it wouldn’t work out for you and I, before we were together, would I have done it. … I wouldn’t trade our time for anything. That’s all we are… the sum of our experiences. Besides, some of the best things in life are total mistakes.” By “mistakes” she means that some of the best things in life are sometimes viewed by others as mistakes, perhaps at the outset, yet those apparent “wrong turns” in life, or mistakes, or changes in plans, end up resulting in some of the greatest treasures. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out the outcome of their romance.

Changing the World. Elsewhere in the movie, there is a cute and short dialog between the two lovers:

Heroin: “I’m looking for a partner, for a startup company.”

Hero: “Really. Doing what?”

Heroin: “I want to save the world.”

Hero: “I don’t think I’m your guy, but will you settle for someone who wants to help you change it?”

Heroin: “Okay.”
