Welcome to the LGBT Resource Group at Resources for Life. This page is part of the Relationship Resource Group. Here we hope to provide information and resources for LBGT life and related issues. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for improvement.

Same Gender Marriage

The following organizations support same gender marriage and marriage equality. This resource group was originally created because this list had grown too long to fit onto the Relationship Resource Group web page. The following is a partial list.

• Atticus Circle. "Atticus Circle educates and mobilizes fair-minded straight people to advance equal rights for LGBT partners, parents, and their children. To accomplish our goal, Atticus Circle will focus its efforts on education, policy development, and legal advocacy. Atticus Circle will provide information about the rights of parents and partners denied on the basis of sexual orientation. We seek to create cultural and attitudinal change by helping people understand the unique challenges and discrimination same gender couples and their families face, and by encouraging acceptance of all families and partnerships."
• Equality California. "The California Equality Project aims to overcome people’s cultural fears, ignorance and emotional conflicts about marriage rights for same-sex couples. An Equality California Institute (EQCAI) endeavor, the Project works to reduce discrimination and intolerance toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Californians through the media, web-based communications, and community outreach and educational programs."
• Equality Iowa. "We are working to educate all Iowans about civil rights, aging, marriage equality and families of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Iowans.
• Human Rights Campaign. "The Human Rights Campaign, the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender advocacy organization, envisions an America where GLBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community. HRC has close to 600,000 members — all committed to making this vision of equality a reality."
• IowaSafeSchools.org. "Making schools a safe place for all children, particularly GLBT students, is difficult and an issue that many prefer would go away. Unfortunately, school administrators, teachers, school board members, other school personnel such as nurses, guidance counselors and social workers, as well as parents and students, are hampered by the lack of information and resources for teaching and meeting the educational needs of GLBT students. The emergence of the GLBT Youth in Iowa Schools Task Force in April 2002 was critical in filling this information gap and in improving the safety and awareness of GLBT students in Iowa."

• MarriageEquality.org. "Speaking engagements, forums, and outreach functions provide our greatest opportunity to educate people on same-sex marriage. Our educational material gives us the opportunity to explain ALL the issues. Greater awareness lessens the fear many people have around same-sex marriage."
• MarriageEqualityRI.org. "MERI is a grassroots movement that seeks legal recognition of same-sex couples through civil marriage in Rhode Island. MERI believes that a civil society guarantees to all of citizens certain civil rights; civil marriage is one of these fundamental rights. Each and every adult in Rhode Island - regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation - deserves the opportunity to attain the legal protections and safeguards gained through civil marriage."
• MarriageEqualityNow.org. "Our goal is to increase visibility and empower the LBGTIQ and allied communities in the greater Seattle area, inspire activism, and advocate for equal marriage rights for all couples and families regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."

• One Iowa. "Through electoral and legislative efforts, issue advocacy, and grassroots organizing, One Iowa is committed to promoting full equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals living in Iowa."

• SoulForce.org. "The purpose of Soulforce is freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from religious and political oppression through the practice of relentless nonviolent resistance."
• UUSIC Interweave. "The UUSIC Chapter of Interweave works toward better public understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender concerns. Its members are active participants in Pride Month events each June, including co-hosting the annual Pride Month talent show."
