In the News

Lebanon Conflict. We are very troubled by the destruction of Lebanon and we hope for violence in the entire region to cease. A Lebanese friend recently wrote us regarding the conflict there:

"... it is sad, and frustrating and scary. For a lot of reasons. But I guess, for now, I am more concerned about my family and friends than anything else. My frustration is mainly because we are bombed for something we have nothing to do with. Christians in Lebanon hate Hizbollah as much (if not more than) the Israelis. And we feel we are punished for something we have not done. The infrastructure, airports, bridges, ports, electricity plants... And to top it, today my 2 brothers were almost killed when a missile exploded very close to them. They are fine but I was scared to death. And I can't stop worrying! ... I live in the Christian region of Beyrouth. And in my town, there are Lebanese army barracks. Yesterday they were bombed: they're not the first army barracks to be bombed. Could anybody tell me how this [the Lebanese] army (that is being bombed and destroyed) is supposed to dismantle the Hizbollah? Am I the only one to see the contradiction is these statements? I am so worried for my family. And the only way to communicate with them is emails. Apparently this also can stop soon..." (20060718tu1756)

Iraq - Army Chaplain Says God Doesn't Choose Sides. In a radio interview that was broadcast via satellite to North America on Christian radio, a U.S. Army Chaplain serving in Iraq stated that God doesn't choose sides and that we shouldn't pray to win a war, but to do God's will "this day." Referring to PSYOPS (battlefield negotiations indented to reduce casualties of war) the Chaplain stated that soldiers should pray that God will give them the courage to take love and compassion out into the battlefield.
